Oxford Brookes University Hire Safety Centre For Major Incident Training
Major Incident Training For Paramedic Students At Safety Centre Charity Hazard Alley
This week paramedic students from Oxford Brookes University had major incident training at The Safety Centre Charity’s immersive education centre, Hazard Alley. Students experienced the most realistic training available before starting their placements on active paramedic crews later this year. The Safety Centre’s education scenarios came to life with actors and mannequins with major wounds and medical emergencies for the students to triage.
This is the second time students from Oxford Brookes have hired the safety centre for their life saving learning. This aligns perfectly with the Safety Centre Charity’s vision of a society where all children, young people and adults have access to interactive, immersive and memorable safety education and training, enabling safe and flourishing communities.
Matthew Catterall, Principal Lecturer & Programme Lead – Paramedic Science at Oxford Brookes University said: “It’s been fantastic this week, our students love the centre. It makes it so real for them and the immersive scenarios help them to practise their skills safely in really lifelike conditions. This also helps them with their non-technical skills like liaising with other medical teams and communicating with patients.”
Sarah Surridge Marketing & Communications Manager at the Safety Centre Charity said “Imagine knife wounds, gunshot wounds, car crashes, serious falls, accidents on the train tracks, emergency childbirth scenarios and many more. It’s an amazing learning opportunity for the students and a fantastic use of our immersive learning centre. Seeing the centre used in such an imaginative way and knowing that the learning from this week will save lives when students join active paramedic crews is phenomenal.”
Paramedic student Joshua said “It was an amazing experience, it gave us a great opportunity to practice paramedic skills in a controlled but life-like environment!”
Another student said “(The Safety Centre) is an amazing facility, perfect for our simulations to prepare us for the real thing.”
